Help shape the future of healthcare across one of the NHS’s most ambitious organisations.
Welcome from Lance McCarthy, Chief Executive
Thank you for your interest in the role of Chief Finance Officer at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.
Few finance leadership opportunities in the NHS offer the chance to influence change on the scale that this role presents.
Over the coming years, Frimley Health will play a leading role in delivering the ambitions of the NHS 10 Year Health Plan, supporting the shift from hospital to community-based care, from analogue to digital services, and from treating illness to promoting prevention and population health. Delivering these ambitions will require bold choices about how resources are deployed, how investment is prioritised, and how financial insight can support transformation across organisational boundaries.
Central to this will be the delivery of the once-in-a-generation redevelopment of Frimley Park Hospital through the New Hospital Programme. This is far more than a major capital project. It is an opportunity to reimagine how care is delivered, create modern infrastructure fit for future generations, and use significant investment as a catalyst for wider clinical, operational and digital transformation. The Chief Finance Officer will play a central role in ensuring this vision is affordable, deliverable and sustainable.
Alongside these ambitions, we are developing our aspiration to become an Integrated Health Organisation, working increasingly closely with partners across the Frimley system to improve population health, tackle inequalities and ensure resources are used effectively for the communities we serve. Financial leadership has never been more important to these conversations, and we are seeking a CFO who is as comfortable shaping system strategy as they are leading a high-performing finance function.
To achieve all of this, we must be relentless in how we use our resources. The financial challenges facing the NHS are well understood, but so too is the opportunity to do things differently. We need to continue improving productivity, delivering value for money, investing where it has the greatest impact, and ensuring every pound of public money is used wisely, transparently and in the best interests of patients and communities. Our future success will depend on making informed choices, supported by high-quality financial insight and a culture of stewardship that reaches every part of the organisation.
We also have an opportunity to shape the future of the finance function itself. We want a function that is highly professional, analytically strong and deeply connected to operational and clinical decision-making. Bringing together finance, planning, procurement, contracting and commercial expertise into a single high-performing team will be a key part of this role, ensuring that financial leadership is at the centre of how we deliver transformation, improve services and create long-term sustainability.
As an Executive Director and full member of the Board, you will help shape the future of one of the NHS’s most ambitious organisations. You will bring strategic leadership, professional credibility and a commitment to ensuring that every pound entrusted to us delivers the greatest possible value for patients, communities and taxpayers.
Frimley Health serves nearly 900,000 people across three counties and has built a strong reputation for clinical excellence, operational delivery and financial stewardship. We believe we are entering one of the most significant periods in our history and are seeking an exceptional individual to join us on that journey.
I hope that, having reviewed the information provided, you will feel inspired by the scale of the opportunity ahead and consider joining us.
